Overall, it indicated a strong increase from 2007 to 2016: the total imports volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, diagnostic equipment imports increased by +82.8% against its level of 2007. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016, an increase of 31% against the previous year level. In that year, global diagnostic equipment imports reached its maximum volume, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, diagnostic equipment imports totaled $109B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. Global diagnostic equipment import peaked in 2016, and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Diagnostic Equipment Imports By Country

In 2016, Mozambique (613K tonnes), Mexico (481K tonnes), and China (346K tonnes) were the largest importers of diagnostic equipment in the world, generating 48% of total import. It was distantly followed by Germany (144K tonnes), committing 5% share of total diagnostic equipment imports. The following importers - Belgium (110K tonnes), Ireland (101K tonnes), the UK (101K tonnes), France (95K tonnes), Japan (74K tonnes), Italy (71K tonnes), the Netherlands (57K tonnes), and Venezuela (47K tonnes) together made up 22% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of diagnostic equipment imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (+348.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($8.5B), the Netherlands ($7.7B) and China ($6.8B) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, with a combined 21% share of global imports.

China (+18.0% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the diagnostic equipment imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Diagnostic Equipment Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for diagnostic equipment amounted to $37 per kg, shrinking by -20.7% against the previous year. In general, diagnostic equipment import price continues to indicate a slight drop. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, when import increased by 8% year-to-year. Global diagnostic equipment import peaked of $50 per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was the Netherlands ($136 per kg), while Mozambique ($38 per tonne) was among the lowest.
