In 2016, the amount of diagnostic equipment exported worldwide totaled 1.6M tonnes, coming up by 4% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011, an increase of 15% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global diagnostic equipment exports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, diagnostic equipment exports totaled $112B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a remarkable expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total exports value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, diagnostic equipment exports decreased by -1.1% against its level of 2014. Global diagnostic equipment export peaked of $113B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Diagnostic Equipment Exports By Country

Mexico (410K tonnes), and China (346K tonnes) represented roughly 47% of total exports of diagnostic equipment in 2016. Germany (136K tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (108K tonnes). All these countries together took near 15% share of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (58K tonnes), the Netherlands (54K tonnes), Italy (50K tonnes), France (40K tonnes), Ireland (34K tonnes), the Dominican Republic (33K tonnes), Spain (31K tonnes), and Japan (28K tonnes) together made up 20% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of diagnostic equipment exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by China (+7.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($13B), the Netherlands ($8.7B) and Mexico ($6.9B) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together accounting for 26% of global exports.Belgium, China, Ireland, Japan, France, the UK, Italy, the Dominican Republic and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

China (+12.5% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of diagnostic equipment exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Diagnostic Equipment Export Prices By Country

The average diagnostic equipment export price stood at $70 per kg in 2016, remaining stable against the previous year level. Overall, diagnostic equipment export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, an increase of 15% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, average diagnostic equipment export price attained its maximum level of $77 per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($164 per kg), while China ($16 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of diagnostic equipment export prices was attained by Ireland (+10.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
