In 2016, the global exports of iron oxide pigments totaled 1.4M tonnes, moving up by 3% against the previous year figure. In general, iron oxide pigments exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when export increased by 17% year-to-year. Global iron oxide pigments export peaked in 2016, and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, iron oxide pigments exports amounted to $1.1B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. Over the period under review, global iron oxide pigments exports reached its maximum level of $1.2B in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Iron Oxide Pigments Exports By Country

In 2016, Germany (487K tonnes), distantly followed by China (305K tonnes), the U.S. (139K tonnes), and South Korea (74K tonnes) were the largest exporters of iron oxide pigments, together mixed up 70% of total exports. Sweden (62K tonnes), Iran (41K tonnes), Japan (35K tonnes), Italy (34K tonnes), France (32K tonnes), India (29K tonnes), Brazil (28K tonnes), and Austria (24K tonnes) took the mild share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of iron oxide pigments exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Germany (+10.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($397M), China ($301M) and the U.S. ($107M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together comprising 72% of global exports.Italy, Brazil, Japan, France, South Korea, India, Austria, Sweden and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

India (+15.9% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of iron oxide pigments exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Iron Oxide Pigments Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for iron oxide pigments amounted to $777 per tonne, descending by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when export increased by 15% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, average iron oxide pigments export price attained its maximum level of $960 per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Italy ($1,489 per tonne), while Sweden ($49 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of iron oxide pigments export prices was attained by India (+8.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
