UK Ink Price Skyrocket to $45.4 per kg

United Kingdom Ink Export Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the ink price amounted to $45,363 per ton (FOB, United Kingdom), picking up by 11% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 45% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $73,299 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to January 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($127K per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($8,414 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

United Kingdom Ink Exports

Ink exports from the UK dropped remarkably to 477 tons in January 2023, which is down by -19.2% against the previous month's figure. In general, total exports indicated a slight increase from January 2022 to January 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2023 figures, exports decreased by -25.5% against October 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 with an increase of 60% m-o-m.

In value terms, ink exports declined to $22M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when exports increased by 100% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $45M. From March 2022 to January 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

United Kingdom Ink Exports by Country

The Netherlands (106 tons), Brazil (68 tons) and Italy (52 tons) were the main destinations of ink exports from the UK, with a combined 47% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United States, Saudi Arabia, France, Thailand, Canada, Vietnam, Ireland, the Czech Republic and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 38%.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +39.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($8.4M), Germany ($6.3M) and Ireland ($1M) appeared to be the largest markets for ink exported from the UK worldwide, together accounting for 72% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, the United States, France, Brazil, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Vietnam, Singapore and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +33.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
