Thailand Sewing Thread Import Price in June 2023
In June 2023, the sewing thread price stood at $8,677 per ton (CIF, Thailand), falling by -2.1% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 24% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $11,176 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($16,953 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($5,713 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+19.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Thailand Sewing Thread Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was sewing thread of man-made filaments, whether or not put up for retail sale ($12,342 per ton), while the price for sewing thread of man-made staple fibres, whether or not put up for retail sale totaled $3,622 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by sewing thread of man-made filaments, whether or not put up for retail sale (+2.8%).
Thailand Sewing Thread Imports
In June 2023, approximately 196 tons of sewing thread of man-made filaments or staple fibers were imported into Thailand; which is down by -18.7% compared with May 2023. In general, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 with an increase of 114% month-to-month.
In value terms, sewing thread imports fell dramatically to $1.7M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when imports increased by 65% month-to-month.

In June 2023, China (137 tons) constituted the largest sewing thread supplier to Thailand, with a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, sewing thread imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (21 tons), sixfold. Japan (13 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.8% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-2.5% per month) and Japan (+3.9% per month).
In value terms, China ($1M) constituted the largest supplier of sewing thread to Thailand, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($226K), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8.7% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from China amounted to -4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (+2.8% per month) and the UK (-0.5% per month).
