Sorbitol Price in America Returns to its Bottom Level of $683 per Ton
U.S. Sorbitol Export Price per Ton July 2022
In July 2022, the sorbitol price per ton amounted to $683, declining by -8.4% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 9.7% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $765 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to July 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,613 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico stood at $660 per ton.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+0.8%).
U.S. Sorbitol Exports
After two months of growth, overseas shipments of sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol) decreased by -40.6% to 668 tons in July 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 with an increase of 149% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.3K tons. From March 2022 to July 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sorbitol exports dropped dramatically to $456K (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded moderate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when exports increased by 135% month-to-month. The exports peaked at $957K in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to July 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Sorbitol Exports by Country
Mexico (652 tons) was the main destination for sorbitol exports from the United States, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada (16 tons), with a 2.4% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Mexico amounted to +4.4%.
In value terms, Mexico ($430K) remains the key foreign market for sorbitol exports from the United States, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($26K), with a 5.8% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Mexico amounted to +5.2%.
