U.S. Mushroom Price per Ton May 2022
In May 2022, the mushroom price per ton amounted to $4,471 (CIF, US), with a decrease of -4.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in Mar 2022 when the average import price increased by 5.7% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,747 per ton. From Apr 2022 to May 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($4,769 per ton), while the price for China ($1,305 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

U.S. Mushroom Imports
In May 2022, after three months of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of mushrooms and truffles, when their volume increased by 14% to 8K tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decline. Imports peaked at 8.7K tons in Jan 2022; however, from Feb 2022 to May 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports rose markedly to $36M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible shrinkage. Imports peaked at $39M in Jan 2022; however, from Feb 2022 to May 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Mushroom Imports by Country
In May 2022, Canada (6K tons) constituted the largest mushroom and truffle supplier to the United States, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, mushroom and truffle imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (1.3K tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (350 tons), with a 4.4% share.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Canada was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (-3.3% per month) and China (-22.4% per month).
In value terms, Canada ($29M) constituted the largest supplier of mushroom and truffle to the United States, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($4.8M), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 2.1% share.
From Jan 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Canada was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (-1.7% per month) and South Korea (-3.5% per month).
