India's Ferro-manganese Price Increases by 2%, Averaging $1,171 per Ton
India Ferro-Manganese Export Price in November 2022
In November 2022, the ferro-manganese price amounted to $1,171 per ton (FOB, India), rising by 2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2022 an increase of 5.6% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,882 per ton. From February 2022 to November 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,995 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($904 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2021 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

India Ferro-Manganese Export Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat for the major types of exported product. In November 2022, the product with the highest price was ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight 2% or less of carbon ($1,525 per ton), while the average price for exports of ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon stood at $1,113 per ton.
From November 2021 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon (-2.6%).
India Ferro-Manganese Exports
Ferro-manganese exports from India reduced sharply to 40K tons in November 2022, declining by -19.4% against the month before. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when exports increased by 40% m-o-m.
In value terms, ferro-manganese exports shrank notably to $47M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. Overall, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when exports increased by 25% month-to-month.
India Ferro-Manganese Exports by Type
Ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon (34K tons) was the largest type of ferro-manganese exported from India, accounting for a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon exceeded the volume of the second product type, ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight 2% or less of carbon (5.7K tons), sixfold.
From November 2021 to November 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon amounted to -5.0%.
In value terms, ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon ($38M) remains the largest type of ferro-manganese exported from India, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight 2% or less of carbon ($8.6M), with an 18% share of total exports.
From November 2021 to November 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of ferro-alloys; ferro-manganese, containing by weight more than 2% of carbon totaled -7.4%.
India Ferro-Manganese Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (9K tons), the United States (6K tons) and Italy (4.2K tons) were the main destinations of ferro-manganese exports from India, with a combined 48% share of total exports. Canada, Turkey, Brazil, Indonesia, Egypt, Vietnam, South Korea, Oman, Taiwan (Chinese) and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
From November 2021 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for ferro-manganese exported from India were the United Arab Emirates ($11M), Canada ($8.4M) and the United States ($6M), together comprising 54% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +13.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
