India's Carrot and Turnip Price Slumps Sharply to $229 per Ton
India Carrot And Turnip Export Price in July 2022
In July 2022, the carrot and turnip price stood at $229 per ton (FOB, India), waning by -46.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 41% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $615 per ton. From June 2022 to July 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Bhutan ($774 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal amounted to $198 per ton.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bhutan (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
India Carrot And Turnip Exports
After five months of decline, shipments abroad of carrots and turnips increased by 22% to 21 tons in July 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a precipitous decrease. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 304 tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, carrot and turnip exports declined remarkably to $4.7K (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -9.4% was in February 2022. The exports peaked at 157 tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
India Carrot And Turnip Exports by Country
Nepal (20 tons) was the main destination for carrot and turnip exports from India, accounting for a 95% share of total exports. Moreover, carrot and turnip exports to Nepal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bhutan (1.1 tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Nepal amounted to +63.5%.
In value terms, Nepal ($3.9K) emerged as the key foreign market for carrot and turnip exports from India, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bhutan ($858), with an 18% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Nepal totaled +74.4%.
