Hong Kong Preserved Tuna Import Price in June 2023
In June 2023, the preserved tuna price amounted to $5,278 per ton (CIF, Hong Kong), surging by 29% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($4,820 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($2,859 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Hong Kong Preserved Tuna Imports
In June 2023, imports of tuna (prepared or preserved) into Hong Kong contracted markedly to 124 tons, declining by -60.4% compared with May 2023. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 50% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 345 tons. From August 2022 to June 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved tuna imports shrank dramatically to $653K (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when imports increased by 54% month-to-month.
Hong Kong Preserved Tuna Imports by Country
Thailand (59 tons), Vietnam (39 tons) and Japan (11 tons) were the main suppliers of preserved tuna imports to Hong Kong, together comprising 88% of total imports.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the biggest increases were in Japan (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest preserved tuna suppliers to Hong Kong were Thailand ($285K), Japan ($168K) and Vietnam ($111K), with a combined 86% share of total imports. The Philippines, South Korea and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
Among the main suppliers, South Korea, with a CAGR of +10.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
