September 2023 Sees France's Shampoo Export Plummet to $59M.

France Shampoo Exports

In September 2023, approximately 15K tons of shampoos were exported from France; declining by -25.6% against August 2023. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when exports increased by 22% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 20K tons. From July 2023 to September 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shampoo exports contracted to $59M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2023. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% from September 2022 to September 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Exports by Country

Italy (3.2K tons), the UK (2.9K tons) and Poland (1.6K tons) were the main destinations of shampoo exports from France, with a combined 52% share of total exports.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +1.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($8.2M), the UK ($7.4M) and Germany ($6.5M) appeared to be the largest markets for shampoo exported from France worldwide, together comprising 37% of total exports. Belgium, Spain, Poland and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +3.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In September 2023, the shampoo price stood at $4,048 per ton (FOB, France), growing by 22% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($14,169 per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($2,178 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+15.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
