China's Export of Candied Fruit Reaches Low of $15M in February 2023
China Candied Fruit Exports
In February 2023, approximately 4.1K tons of candied fruits were exported from China; reducing by -33.3% against the month before. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when exports increased by 20% against the previous month.
In value terms, candied fruit exports contracted sharply to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. In general, exports recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when exports increased by 32% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $32M. From December 2022 to February 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country
Japan (838 tons), Thailand (778 tons) and Malaysia (494 tons) were the main destinations of candied fruit exports from China, together accounting for 51% of total exports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Russia, the UK, India and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 27%.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the biggest increases were in Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +5.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($3.3M), Japan ($2.6M) and Malaysia ($1.5M) appeared to be the largest markets for candied fruit exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 49% of total exports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, the UK, Kyrgyzstan, India, South Korea, Vietnam and Russia, which together accounted for a further 26%.
India, with a CAGR of +3.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In February 2023, the candied fruit price stood at $3,684 per ton, therefore (FOB, China), remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $4,228 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to February 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($8,122 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($2,023 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
