Hop Price in Canada Amounts to $21.5 per kg

Canada Hop Import Price in August 2022

In August 2022, the hop price stood at $21.5 per kg (CIF, Canada), declining by -3.9% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 23% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $23,597 per ton. From June 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($31.7 per kg), while the price for Slovenia ($7,730 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Canada Hop Import Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was hop cones; ground, powdered or in the form of pellets; lupulin ($21.9 per kg), while the price for hop cones; neither ground nor powdered nor in the form of pellets totaled $8,446 per ton.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by hop cones; ground, powdered or in the form of pellets; lupulin (+2.3%).

Canada Hop Imports

Hop imports into Canada skyrocketed to 206 tons in August 2022, growing by 50% on July 2022 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 129% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 264 tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hop imports skyrocketed to $4.4M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 164% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $6M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Canada Hop Imports by Type

In August 2022, hop cones; ground, powdered or in the form of pellets; lupulin (199 tons) was the main type of hop supplied to Canada, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. Moreover, hop cones; ground, powdered or in the form of pellets; lupulin exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, hop cones; neither ground nor powdered nor in the form of pellets (6.7 tons), more than tenfold.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of hop cones; ground, powdered or in the form of pellets; lupulin stood at -2.7%.

In value terms, hop cones; ground, powdered or in the form of pellets; lupulin ($4.4M) constituted the largest type of hop supplied to Canada, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by hop cones; neither ground nor powdered nor in the form of pellets ($56K), with a 1.3% share of total imports.

Canada Hop Imports by Country

In August 2022, the United States (133 tons) constituted the largest supplier of hop to Canada, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, hop imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (34 tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (21 tons), with a 10% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at -3.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (+13.4% per month) and Germany (-12.7% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($3M) constituted the largest supplier of hop to Canada, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($868K), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.1% share.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at -1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (+13.1% per month) and Germany (-13.0% per month).
