Exports from Vietnam
In 2021, the amount of toilet or facial tissue stock, towel and similar paper exported from Vietnam dropped remarkably to X tons, which is down by -19.7% against the year before. In general, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 39%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, tissue paper exports fell notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -34.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of tissue paper exports from Vietnam, together accounting for 43% of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Australia, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, New Zealand, India, Taiwan (Chinese) and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 45%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Indonesia (with a CAGR of +155.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for tissue paper exported from Vietnam were Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and the United States ($X), together comprising 44% of total exports. Indonesia, Australia, the Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, New Zealand, India, Taiwan (Chinese) and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +149.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average tissue paper export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 12%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($X per ton) and New Zealand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (-1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Vietnam
Tissue paper imports into Vietnam skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 27% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, tissue paper imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 62%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest tissue paper supplier to Vietnam, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, tissue paper imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (X tons), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled +18.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+32.7% per year) and Japan (+5.9% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tissue paper to Vietnam, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia amounted to +14.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+28.2% per year) and Japan (+1.9% per year).

The average tissue paper import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -13.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Malaysia ($X per ton) and China ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) and Japan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
