Exports from the U.S.

Cotton lint exports from the United States declined significantly to X tonnes in 2021, dropping by -X% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, cotton lint exports dropped modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Pakistan (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Pakistan ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for cotton lint exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

After four years of decline, purchases abroad of cotton lint increased by X% to X tonnes in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

India (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
