Imports into Uganda
In 2022, purchases abroad of plums and sloes was finally on the rise to reach X kg for the first time since 2012, thus ending a nine-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a precipitous curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plum and sloe imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X kg) constituted the largest plum and sloe supplier to Uganda, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, plum and sloe imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X kg), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X kg), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (X% per year) and China (X% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plums and sloes to Uganda, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a X% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
