The Ugandan market for mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics reduced notably to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -42.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kenya (X units) was the main destination for exports of mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics from Uganda, accounting for a 58% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics to Kenya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Sudan (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Sudan (X units), with an 8% share.

The average export price for mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 74% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+23.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, the amount of mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics imported into Uganda contracted notably to X units, declining by -30% on the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 313% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 412%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics supplier to Uganda, with a 58% share of total imports. Among the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +44.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for mattresses other than of cellular rubber or plastics amounted to $X per unit, waning by -14.6% against the previous year.
