Turkey: Titanium Market Overview 2021

Titanium Market Size in Turkey

The Turkish titanium market shrank modestly to $X in 2020, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Titanium consumption peaked at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Titanium Production in Turkey

In value terms, titanium production contracted to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Titanium production peaked at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Titanium Exports

Exports from Turkey

In 2020, overseas shipments of titanium decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2015 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, titanium exports declined rapidly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tonnes) was the main destination for titanium exports from Turkey, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, titanium exports to Uzbekistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tonnes), twofold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uzbekistan stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (X% per year) and Iran (+X% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Iran ($X) were the largest markets for titanium exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Uzbekistan saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average titanium export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, increasing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Titanium Imports

Imports into Turkey

In 2020, the amount of titanium imported into Turkey contracted markedly to X tonnes, waning by -X% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2015 to 2020, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, titanium imports declined notably to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2020, China (X tonnes) constituted the largest titanium supplier to Turkey, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, titanium imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tonnes), fourfold. Germany (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X) constituted the largest supplier of titanium to Turkey, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Sweden stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+X% per year) and the UK (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average titanium import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per tonne), while the price for Italy ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
