In value terms, sweet potato exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) represented the main exporter of sweet potatoes, constituting X% of total exports. Afghanistan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports in Southern Asia
Sweet potato imports soared to X tons in 2022, with an increase of X% against 2021 figures. In general, imports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country
Maldives was the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached X% of total imports. Nepal (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Afghanistan (X%) and India (X%). Bhutan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sweet potato imports into Maldives stood at X%. At the same time, India (X%), Nepal (X%), Bhutan (X%) and Afghanistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. While the share of Nepal (X p.p.), Maldives (X p.p.) and India (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Afghanistan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
