In value terms, sweet potato exports totaled $X in 2018. In general, sweet potato exports, however, continue to indicate an abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, sweet potato exports attained their peak figure at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

Exports by Country

Nepal (X tonnes), the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes) and Maldives (X tonnes) were the main destinations of sweet potato exports from India, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Canada, the UK, Qatar, Kuwait and Australia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Canada ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Maldives ($X) constituted the largest markets for sweet potato exported from India worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Nepal, Kuwait, the UK, Australia and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average sweet potato export price amounted to $X per tonne, going down by -X% against the previous year. In general, the sweet potato export price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, sweet potato imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, sweet potato imports reached their peak of X tonnes. From 2009 to 2018, the growth of sweet potato imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sweet potato imports stood at $X in 2018. In general, sweet potato imports, however, continue to indicate a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, sweet potato imports attained their peak and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Egypt (X tonnes) was the main supplier of sweet potato to India, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, sweet potato imports from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X kg), more than tenfold.
