In value terms, sweet potato exports surged to $X in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Nepal (X tonnes) was the main destination for sweet potato exports from India, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, sweet potato exports to Nepal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes), sixfold. Maldives (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Nepal totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-X% per year) and Maldives (-X% per year).

In value terms, sweet potato imports declined notably to $X in 2020. In general, imports recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. from 2019 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

Viet Nam (X tonnes) and Sri Lanka (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of sweet potato imports to India.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Viet Nam.
