For the third consecutive year, Scandinavia recorded growth in overseas shipments of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers, which increased by 29% to X units in 2021. Total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +72.9% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 35% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Sweden was the major exporter of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was approx. 73% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X units) and Finland (X units), together comprising a 24% share of total exports. Norway (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electromechanical tools for working in the hand, with self-contained electric motor exports from Sweden stood at +8.1%. At the same time, Norway (+8.8%) and Denmark (+8.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. The second position in the ranking was held by Finland ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Sweden stood at -3.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (-0.2% per year) and Denmark (+8.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per unit), while Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+16.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

For the third year in a row, Scandinavia recorded growth in overseas purchases of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers, which increased by 27% to X units in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +75.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Sweden (X units) was the main importer of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers, making up 44% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X units), Finland (X units) and Norway (X units), together comprising a 55% share of total imports.
