In 2021, shipments abroad of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers increased by 29% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +109.1% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany was the largest exporter of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers in the European Union, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 33% of total exports in 2021. The Netherlands (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (X units), Hungary (X units), Romania (X units) and Austria (X units). All these countries together took approx. 46% share of total exports. Spain (X units), Poland (X units), France (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Sweden (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Spain (+22.7%), the Netherlands (+17.2%), Austria (+15.7%), Poland (+15.4%), Romania (+13.3%), Belgium (+8.2%), Sweden (+8.1%), France (+7.0%), Hungary (+5.1%) and the Czech Republic (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +22.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of the Netherlands (+5.3 p.p.), Austria (+3.1 p.p.), Spain (+2.7 p.p.), Romania (+2.2 p.p.) and Poland (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-3.1 p.p.), the Czech Republic (-3.2 p.p.) and Hungary (-3.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 9.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +5.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+5.0% per year) and Austria (+12.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, surging by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 7.7%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the tenth year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in supplies from abroad of in-hand motor grinders, sanders and planers, which increased by 43% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
