In 2023, shipments abroad of airplanes and other aircraft increased by X% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports posted slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aircraft exports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2023, South Africa (X units) was the key exporter of airplanes and other aircraft, constituting X% of total exports. Botswana (X units) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Zambia (X%), Madagascar (X%), Tanzania (X%) and Malawi (X%). Namibia (X units) took a little share of total exports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of airplanes and other aircraft. At the same time, Zambia (X%), Tanzania (X%), Malawi (X%) and Madagascar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Namibia (X%) and Botswana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Zambia (X p.p.), Madagascar (X p.p.), Tanzania (X p.p.) and Malawi (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Namibia, South Africa and Botswana saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2023, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per unit), while Malawi ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Namibia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in SADC
In 2023, imports of airplanes and other aircraft in SADC soared to X units, jumping by X% against 2022 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, aircraft imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the major importer of airplanes and other aircraft in SADC, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. Botswana (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Zimbabwe (X%) and Namibia (X%). The following importers - Zambia (X units) and Angola (X units) - together made up X% of total imports.
Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Zimbabwe (X%) and Namibia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Angola experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Zambia (X%) and Botswana (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
