Flax Fiber Market Size in Republic of Korea

In 2020, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the South Korean flax fiber market, when its value increased by X% to $X. In general, consumption recorded noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Flax fiber consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

After six years of growth, overseas shipments of flax fiber decreased by -X% to X kg in 2020. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, flax fiber exports dropped sharply to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tonnes), Ghana (X tonnes) and Norway (X kg) were the main destinations of flax fiber exports from South Korea, together comprising X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ghana ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Norway ($X) constituted the largest markets for flax fiber exported from South Korea worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports.

Indonesia (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average flax fiber export price stood at $X per tonne in 2019, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep downturn. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2019, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Republic of Korea

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of flax fiber were imported into South Korea; growing by X% against 2019 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, flax fiber imports soared to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Belgium (X tonnes) and China (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of flax fiber imports to South Korea, together accounting for X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest flax fiber suppliers to South Korea, with a combined X% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, China saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average flax fiber import price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was China ($X per tonne), while the price for Belgium stood at $X per tonne.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium.
