In 2021, Norway (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the major exporters of inedible fish productsaround the world, together making up 42% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Canada (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together committing a 21% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), South Korea (X tons), the United States (X tons), Free Zones (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +39.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the largest inedible fish products supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 17% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 7.7% share of global exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.4% share.

In the United States, inedible fish products exports increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+24.4% per year) and Germany (+12.9% per year).

Denmark was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 32% of total imports. Germany (X tons) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United States (6.6%), Norway (5.7%), Ireland (5.2%) and Thailand (4.6%). The following importers - Canada (X tons), France (X tons), Japan (X tons), Spain (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Iceland (X tons) - together made up 21% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to inedible fish products imports into Denmark stood at +1.6%. At the same time, Ireland (+50.5%), Thailand (+34.2%), Norway (+12.6%), France (+12.2%), the United States (+10.9%), Ecuador (+10.5%), Germany (+7.9%), Spain (+3.3%) and Canada (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +50.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Australia (-1.2%), Japan (-7.3%) and Iceland (-20.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Ireland (+5 p.p.), Thailand (+4.2 p.p.), Germany (+3.8 p.p.), the United States (+3.2 p.p.), Norway (+3.1 p.p.) and France (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global imports from 2012-2021, the share of Denmark (-4.7 p.p.), Iceland (-5 p.p.) and Japan (-6.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Denmark ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 27% share of total imports. Japan, Germany, Norway, France, Thailand, Australia, Ireland, Spain, Ecuador and Iceland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Ireland, with a CAGR of +34.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
