Lime Market Size in Portugal

Over the period under review, lime exports attained their peak figure at X tonnes in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, lime exports stood at $X in 2018. Over the period under review, lime exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

South Africa (X tonnes), Ghana (X tonnes) and Finland (X tonnes) were the main destinations of lime exports from Portugal, together comprising X% of total exports. Spain, the UK, Angola, Mauritania and Equatorial Guinea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the key foreign market for lime exports from Portugal, comprising X% of total lime exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Ghana ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Equatorial Guinea, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of value to South Africa totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (+X% per year) and Equatorial Guinea (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average lime export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the lime export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Equatorial Guinea ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Portugal

Lime imports into Portugal totaled X tonnes in 2018, lowering by -X% against the previous year. In general, lime imports, however, continue to indicate a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, lime imports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of lime imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lime imports totaled $X in 2018. Overall, lime imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, lime imports reached their peak figure at $X in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Spain (X tonnes) was the main supplier of lime to Portugal, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, lime imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from Spain amounted to +X%.
