Solid Biofuel Market Size in Peru
After two years of decline, the Peruvian solid biofuel market increased by 11% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, saw a abrupt descent. Solid biofuel consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Solid Biofuel Production in Peru
In value terms, solid biofuel production reduced slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 48%. Solid biofuel production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Peru
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of solid biofuels, when their volume decreased by -1.3% to X tons. In general, exports, however, posted a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 268% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, solid biofuel exports rose notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed mild growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 303%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Ecuador (X tons) was the main destination for solid biofuel exports from Peru, accounting for a 40% share of total exports. Moreover, solid biofuel exports to Ecuador exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold. Chile (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ecuador totaled +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+94.1% per year) and Chile (+67.7% per year).
In value terms, Ecuador ($X) remains the key foreign market for solid biofuels exports from Peru, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 2.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Ecuador was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (0.0% per year) and the United States (+43.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average solid biofuel export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 66%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (-0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Solid Biofuel Imports
Imports into Peru
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of solid biofuels, when their volume decreased by -9.5% to X tons. In general, imports saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 959%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, solid biofuel imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 994%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Bolivia (X tons) constituted the largest solid biofuel supplier to Peru, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, solid biofuel imports from Bolivia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Argentina (X tons), with a 1.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Bolivia stood at -4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+64.9% per year) and Argentina (+6.6% per year).
In value terms, Bolivia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of solid biofuels to Peru, comprising 20% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with an 8.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Bolivia stood at -3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+57.6% per year) and Argentina (+9.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average solid biofuel import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 164% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
