Plantain Market Size in the Netherlands

For the eighth year in a row, the Dutch plantain market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2018. In general, consumption continues to indicate a significant increase. These countries were followed by Lithuania, Spain, Bulgaria and Germany, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Bulgaria (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plantain exported from the Netherlands were Belgium ($X), Romania ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Spain, Lithuania, Germany and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X (+X% per year) saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2019, the average plantain export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2015 to 2019, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2019, imports of plantains into the Netherlands reached X tonnes, surging by X% against 2018 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plantain imports expanded slightly to $X in 2019.
