Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, polystyrene exports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Brazil was the main exporter of polystyrene in MERCOSUR, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons) and Argentina (X tons), together creating a X% share of total exports. Chile (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the polystyrene exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Colombia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. In 2022, overseas purchases of polystyrene decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polystyrene imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X tons), distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Peru (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) represented the largest importers of polystyrene, together achieving X% of total imports. Uruguay (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of polystyrene. At the same time, Ecuador (X%), Colombia (X%) and Uruguay (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MERCOSUR, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Peru (X%) and Argentina (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
