Saudi Arabia was the largest exporter of sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather, excluding chamois leather in MENA, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 30% of total exports in 2022. Algeria (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (12%), Turkey (12%), Iraq (11%), Tunisia (9.5%) and Iran (5.2%).

Turkey (+8.5 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+8.3 p.p.), Algeria (+7.3 p.p.), Iraq (+5.1 p.p.) and Tunisia (+4.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Iran and Saudi Arabia saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -12.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest sheep, goat, swine or reptile leather supplier in MENA, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-12.7% per year) and Tunisia (-5.8% per year).
