The Malaysian date market dropped modestly to $X in 2020, flattening at the previous year. Thailand (X tonnes) was the main destination for date exports from Malaysia, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, date exports to Thailand exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tonnes), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Singapore (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Thailand amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+X% per year) and Singapore (+X% per year).

In value terms, Thailand ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for date exports from Malaysia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Indonesia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a X% share.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, purchases abroad of dates was finally on the rise to reach X tonnes after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. from 2018 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Tunisia totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (+X% per year) and China (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average date import price amounted to $X per tonne, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, date import price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2019, and then shrank in the following year.
