For the seventh year in a row, the Japanese kiwi fruit market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. For the fourth year in a row, Japan recorded decline in overseas shipments of kiwi fruit, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, kiwi fruit exports contracted modestly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes) were the main destinations of kiwi fruit exports from Japan.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese).

In 2020, supplies from abroad of kiwi fruit decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2019, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
