Polycarbonate Market Size in Italy

In 2020, the Italian polycarbonate market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Polycarbonate consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Polycarbonate Production in Italy

In value terms, polycarbonate production declined to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production recorded a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the production volume increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2012 to 2020, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, shipments abroad of polycarbonates (in primary forms) decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polycarbonate exports shrank modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tonnes) was the main destination for polycarbonate exports from Italy, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, polycarbonate exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by France (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+X% per year) and France (-X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for polycarbonate exports from Italy, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by France ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-X% per year) and Poland (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average polycarbonate export price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Romania ($X per tonne) and France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per tonne) and Morocco ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Italy

For the third consecutive year, Italy recorded decline in purchases abroad of polycarbonates (in primary forms), which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, polycarbonate imports contracted to $X in 2020. In general, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tonnes), Belgium (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of polycarbonate imports to Italy, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Hungary, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Saudi Arabia (+X% per year), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest polycarbonate suppliers to Italy were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Spain, South Korea, Hungary and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X Arabia (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average polycarbonate import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($X per tonne) and Hungary ($X per tonne), while the price for South Korea ($X per tonne) and Saudi Arabia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
