Paper Label Market Size in Ghana

The Ghanian paper label market was estimated at $X in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Paper label consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, paper label production reduced modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Paper Label Exports

Exports from Ghana

In 2021, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of labels of paper or paperboard, when their volume decreased by -10.5% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 559% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, paper label exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 435% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Togo (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons) and Benin (X tons) were the main destinations of paper label exports from Ghana, together comprising 98% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Togo (with a CAGR of +65.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Togo ($X) remains the key foreign market for paper label exports from Ghana, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Benin ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Togo totaled +62.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Benin (+6.5% per year) and Burkina Faso (+22.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average paper label export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 72% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Togo (-1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Paper Label Imports

Imports into Ghana

In 2021, purchases abroad of labels of paper or paperboard increased by 21% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 496%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paper label imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 616% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

India (X tons), China (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of paper label imports to Ghana, with a combined 86% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest paper label suppliers to Ghana, together accounting for 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Germany, Italy, South Africa and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 18%.

South Korea, with a CAGR of +28.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average paper label import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+24.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
