Watch Market Size in Germany

The German watch market stood at $X in 2019, flattening at the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.

In 2020, overseas shipments of watches decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2016 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, watch exports reduced to $X in 2020. In general, total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2014 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Poland (X tonnes) was the main destination for watch exports from Germany, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, watch exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Italy (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+X% per year) and Italy (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for watch exported from Germany were France ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Poland ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.

Poland saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average watch export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, Germany recorded decline in purchases abroad of watches, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, imports showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, watch imports contracted to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value decreased at an average annual rate of -X% over the last thirteen-year period.
