Dolomite Market Size in GCC

In 2021, the GCC dolomite market decreased by -0.2% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 77%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in GCC

In 2021, the amount of dolomite exported in GCC soared to X tons, with an increase of 33% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 156%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dolomite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 151%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 96% of total exports in 2021. Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The United Arab Emirates was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dolomite exports, with a CAGR of +12.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates increased by +2.6 percentage points.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest dolomite supplier in GCC, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 3% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Oman totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+3.1%).

Imports in GCC

In 2021, supplies from abroad of dolomite decreased by -2.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 492%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 277% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Qatar dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 83% of total imports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.9% share, followed by Bahrain (6.9%). Oman (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Qatar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dolomite imports, with a CAGR of +135.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+53.2%), Oman (+28.9%) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Qatar (+83 p.p.) and Bahrain (+3.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Oman and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -51.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Qatar ($X), Bahrain ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 91% of total imports.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +66.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 62% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (-2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
