Dolomite Market Size in GCC

In 2021, the GCC dolomite market decreased by -1.2% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, saw a strong increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -1.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 49%. Dolomite exports soared to X tons in 2021, increasing by 33% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 166%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, dolomite exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 119% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from the United Arab Emirates stood at +12.2%. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+28.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +28.7% from 2012-2021. Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, imports of chalk and dolomite in GCC surged to X tons, picking up by 35% against 2020. Overall, imports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 288% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 226%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 66% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons), together generating a 31% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite imports into Saudi Arabia stood at +82.0%. At the same time, Qatar (+101.4%), Bahrain (+40.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in GCC, with a CAGR of +101.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Saudi Arabia (+66 p.p.) and Qatar (+18 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Bahrain (-8.2 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-36.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chalk and dolomite in GCC, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bahrain ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with an 8.2% share.

In Saudi Arabia, dolomite imports increased at an average annual rate of +55.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bahrain (+38.1% per year) and Qatar (+44.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bahrain (-1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
