Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of whole fresh milk exports from France, together comprising 61% of total exports. Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for whole fresh milk exported from France were Italy ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 57% share of total exports. Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +10.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average whole fresh milk export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into France
In 2022, supplies from abroad of whole fresh milk was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest whole fresh milk supplier to France, accounting for a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, whole fresh milk imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Luxembourg (X tons), with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +5.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-13.1% per year) and Luxembourg (+40.0% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest whole fresh milk suppliers to France, together accounting for 76% of total imports. Luxembourg, Sweden, Germany and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Sweden, with a CAGR of +85.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average whole fresh milk import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, whole fresh milk import price increased by +81.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Luxembourg ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+25.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
