Germany was the largest importer of wine in the European Union, with the volume of imports amounting to X litres, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. France (X litres) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (X%), Belgium (X%) and Portugal (X%). Sweden (X litres), Denmark (X litres), Italy (X litres), the Czech Republic (X litres), Poland (X litres), Latvia (X litres), Lithuania (X litres) and Ireland (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Germany decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Latvia (X%), Portugal (X%), Ireland (X%), Poland (X%), Sweden (X%) and the Netherlands (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Lithuania, the Czech Republic, France, Belgium and Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Portugal (X p.p.) and Latvia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of Italy (X p.p.) and Germany (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
