Tractor Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU tractor market increased by 3.6% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a prominent increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Tractor Production in the EU

In value terms, tractor production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -11.7% against 2018 indices. In 2021, overseas shipments of tractors increased by 38% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after four years of decline. In general, exports showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, tractor exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The biggest shipments were from the Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units), France (X units) and Belgium (X units), together accounting for 66% of total export. It was distantly followed by Poland (X units), Italy (X units) and Spain (X units), together comprising a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +21.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 58% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Italy, Spain and Poland, which together accounted for a further 25%.

Among the main exporting countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +11.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, approx. X units of tractors were imported in the European Union; rising by 43% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +107.6% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The purchases of the six major importers of tractors, namely Poland, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, represented more than half of total import. Lithuania (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Spain (X units). All these countries together took approx. 9.5% share of total imports. Romania (X units), Austria (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Slovakia (X units) and Portugal (X units) took a minor share of total imports.

Italy, with a CAGR of +10.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
