Tractor Market Size in China

The Chinese tractor market dropped to $X in 2021, with a decrease of -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Tractor consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Tractor Production in China

In value terms, tractor production contracted slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +1.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the production volume increased by 16%. Tractor production peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Exports from China

In 2021, the amount of tractors exported from China soared to X units, with an increase of 79% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports posted buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, tractor exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Ukraine (X units), Bangladesh (X units) and Vietnam (X units) were the main destinations of tractor exports from China, with a combined 24% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Vietnam (with a CAGR of +38.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the key foreign market for tractor exports from China, comprising 16% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nigeria ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Mongolia, with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Vietnam stood at +43.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nigeria (+5.4% per year) and Mongolia (+13.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average tractor export price amounted to $X per unit, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 28%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+18.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tractor Imports

Imports into China

In 2021, overseas purchases of tractors increased by 49% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tractor imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X units), Sweden (X units) and Belgium (X units) were the main suppliers of tractor imports to China, with a combined 60% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +193.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest tractor suppliers to China were Sweden ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), together accounting for 71% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Belgium, with a CAGR of +159.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average tractor import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -12.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
