The shipments of the four major exporters of polishes and creams for footwear or leather, namely Germany, Poland, Italy and Spain, represented more than half of total export. It was distantly followed by Austria (X tons), France (X tons), Portugal (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together achieving a 33% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 45% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 43%.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +15.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, surging by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 10%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, overseas purchases of polishes and creams for footwear or leather were finally on the rise to reach X tons after seven years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, footwear treatments imports rose slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The purchases of the five major importers of polishes and creams for footwear or leather, namely Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together constituting a 9.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Portugal (X tons), Spain (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Hungary (with a CAGR of +4.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 41% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +4.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, flattening at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
