The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 570% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, flat glass exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 306% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest flat glass supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 6.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Nigeria stood at +28.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Ghana (+28.2% per year) and Senegal (+8.9% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Among the main importing countries, Sierra Leone, with a CAGR of +32.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 25% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sierra Leone ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
