In value terms, common pottery exports totaled $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Ghana represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons), constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Mali (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Niger (X tons) and Sierra Leone (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to common pottery exports from Ghana stood at X%. At the same time, Mali (X%), Nigeria (X%), Niger (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Sierra Leone (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mali emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Senegal (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nigeria (X p.p.), Ghana (X p.p.) and Mali (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Senegal saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest common pottery supplier in ECOWAS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Nigeria stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (X% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (X% per year).

In 2023, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a modest expansion. After two years of decline, overseas purchases of common pottery increased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, common pottery imports soared to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Nigeria was the key importer of common pottery in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. Ghana (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Benin (X%). Senegal (X tons), Burkina Faso (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Cabo Verde (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, common pottery import price increased by X% against 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when the import price increased by X%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
