Spacecraft Market Size in ECOWAS

The ECOWAS spacecraft market fell modestly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted modest growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles decreased by X% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spacecraft exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a dramatic downturn. The smallest decline of X% was in 2014. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Benin.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Benin amounted to X% per year.

Spacecraft Imports

Imports in ECOWAS

After five years of growth, overseas purchases of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles decreased by X% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, spacecraft imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Ghana (X units) represented the key importer of civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles, making up X% of total imports. Gambia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Cabo Verde (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Niger (X units) and Nigeria (X units). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to spacecraft imports into Ghana stood at X%. Niger experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Gambia (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Cabo Verde (X%) and Nigeria (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Gambia (X p.p.), Cabo Verde (X p.p.) and Niger (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Nigeria (X p.p.) and Ghana (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Niger ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported civil spacecraft, satellites and launch vehicles in ECOWAS, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Gambia ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a X% share.

In Niger, spacecraft imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Gambia (X% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, jumping by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by X%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
