In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of bedding and furnishing articles (quilts, eiderdowns, cushions, pouffes and pillows), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. In general, exports, however, posted a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, bedding and furnishing article exports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Togo was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. Senegal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Ghana (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Exports from Togo increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Ghana (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cote d'Ivoire emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Senegal (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Togo and Ghana increased by X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Togo ($X), Ghana ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising X% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further X%.

Cote d'Ivoire, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ECOWAS stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, bedding and furnishing article imports in ECOWAS amounted to X tons, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, bedding and furnishing article imports reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Togo (X tons) and Ghana (X tons) represented the main importers of bedding and furnishing articles (quilts, eiderdowns, cushions, pouffes and pillows) in 2022, finishing at approx. X% and X% of total imports, respectively. Burkina Faso (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Senegal (X%). Guinea (X tons), Benin (X tons), Niger (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Gambia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
