Exports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of files, rasps and similar tools, when their volume decreased by -31.2% to X units. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 39%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, files and rasps exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 30%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then plummeted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X units), distantly followed by Belarus (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Russia (X units) and Lithuania (X units) were the key exporters of files, rasps and similar tools, together generating 88% of total exports. The following exporters - Bulgaria (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - each recorded a 6.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +48.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 82% of total exports. These countries were followed by Lithuania, Belarus, Slovakia and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 11%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +32.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -12.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, files and rasps export price decreased by -29.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, approx. X units of files, rasps and similar tools were imported in Eastern Europe; dropping by -1.5% on the year before. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, files and rasps imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X units), distantly followed by Romania (X units), Poland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Belarus (X units) represented the largest importers of files, rasps and similar tools, together generating 83% of total imports. The following importers - Ukraine (X units) and Hungary (X units) - each reached an 8.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +8.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest files and rasps importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Romania, Hungary, Ukraine and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 25%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +4.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per unit, falling by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 7%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
