The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while China totaled $X per unit.

Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -3.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 45%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Hong Kong SAR (X units) and Japan (X units) dominates imports structure, together mixing up 79% of total imports. China (X units) held a 6.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (5.8%) and South Korea (5.8%). Macao SAR (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +49.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 85% of total imports.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +17.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -16.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 22%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while Macao SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
