In value terms, prefabricated buildings exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) and Germany (X units) were the key exporters of prefabricated buildings in the European Union, together accounting for approx. 43% of total exports. Lithuania (X units) took an 8.6% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Austria (7.5%), Romania (7.3%), Italy (6.5%), Finland (5.7%), Sweden (5.2%) and France (4.9%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 26% of total exports. Lithuania, France, Sweden, Austria, Finland and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Among the main exporting countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +13.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 121% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+10.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Prefabricated buildings imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, with an increase of 47% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Moreover, Sweden emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +28.6% from 2012-2021. While the share of Sweden (+10 p.p.), Germany (+9.9 p.p.), the Netherlands (+8.9 p.p.) and Ireland (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-8.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported prefabricated buildings in the European Union, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 10% share.

In Germany, prefabricated buildings imports increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+20.5% per year) and France (+2.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 28%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.
