The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 272% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Kazakhstan dominates exports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. Russia (X units) held a little share of total exports.
Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for the preparation or making up of tobacco exports, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012 to 2021. Russia (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+67 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.
Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +20.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review.

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -61.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 1,185%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan amounted to $X per unit.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+8.9%).

Imports in CIS
Tobacco making machinery imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, jumping by 119% against 2020 figures. In general, imports posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 393% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tobacco making machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 205% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia was the main importer of machinery for the preparation or making up of tobacco in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was near 66% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Azerbaijan (X units) and Belarus (X units). All these countries together took approx. 29% share of total imports. Armenia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Armenia (+76.4%), Azerbaijan (+49.3%), Belarus (+27.8%) and Uzbekistan (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +76.4% from 2012-2021. Russia (+16 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+8.2 p.p.), Armenia (+4.1 p.p.) and Belarus (+4.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Uzbekistan saw its share reduced by -12.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for the preparation or making up of tobacco in the CIS, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Armenia ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 6.8% share.
In Russia, tobacco making machinery imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Armenia (+12.6% per year) and Belarus (-2.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -44.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 121%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
